Cheerful anniversary today: it’s two years since the start of the massive Israeli aerial bombardment and invasion of Gaza. The Israeli military codenamed it ‘Operation Cast Lead’; Amnesty International called it “22 days of death and destruction.” New York-based Human Rights Watch criticised Israel for its use of phosphorus bombs in civilian areas, calling Israel’s actions a “war crime.” The Israeli organisation Physicians for Human Rights reported on the many attacks by Israeli soldiers and air force on medical facilities – hospitals, clinics and ambulances and their staff. The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights list of most of the 1400 dead, including names, gender, age and occupation, is here.
